Creator of Solfege Story - Jit Fong Oon

Music is a language. It needs to be learnt like a language.

Solfege Story is a labor of love by pianist/screenwriter/creative Jit Fong Oon, based on the concept that the pathway to learning music should be the same as that of learning a language: listening first, followed by speaking/expressing, then reading.

Jit’s philosophy of musicianship can be reduced to a single line: “Play what you love”. If you play what you love, you’ll love what you play. So many of us spend so much time playing songs to please other people – teachers, parents, examiners – that we forget that the most important audience of our playing is ourselves.

Favorite musicians/composers include Bill Evans, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Keith Jarrett, Thomas Newman and Billie Eilish.

You don’t need perfect pitch to play by ear

Over ninety percent of the world’s popular songs – from folk songs, to classical pieces, to hit songs on the radio – are made up of only seven notes. Just seven notes – a home note “do” – and six other notes in relation to that home note.
